Title: The Ghosts that We Knew
Vidder:
cb_eaglemaniac
Character/Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Rating: General
Song: 'The Ghosts that We Knew' - Mumford & Sons
Spoilers: Series 1-4
Length: 4.55
This has been a work in progress since early March - shortly after I finished my most recent vid (This is War), I heard this song and absolutely fell in love. If you haven't heard it, 'The Ghosts that We Knew' is a beautiful song of support - in my opinion, from the POV of someone needing help from a significant other/good friend and getting it in terms of unwavering strength and loyalty. The song, I think, could be used as a POV piece for Arthur or Merlin, but in this case I've chosen to vid it from Arthur's point of view. It turned out to be a mix, though, of the character's usual limited POV and a more omniscient, forward-looking POV: things Arthur should and will eventually know, and will eventually help and make him stronger when he "sees the light". I'm rather proud of this - for technical reasons that will probably become clear (it'll be pretty obvious pretty quickly that I was experimenting with masking! LOL), and because this is a great song to express the way I see Arthur and Merlin's relationship. A lot of care went into this vid, and as always I hope you enjoy it! =)
( Embedded w/lyrics beneath the cut )
Previous Merlin fanvids:
You'll Always Be My Best Friend (Merlin+Arthur friendship)
Book of Days (Merlin-centric)
This is War (General; all characters)
This video has been cross-posted to

For a while now I've been working on a fantasy novel that is based on an event very similar to The Great Purge, in which Uther committed genocide against the sorcerers in the land. Halfway through my writing, I came across a logistical dilemma, which also applies to Merlin (unless I am misremembering events, which, knowing me, is a strong possibility).
How exactly did Uther manage to murder the majority of the magical population when they are, you know, magical? I know they were probably outnumbered, but you would think that it would have been simple for them to escape and hide, then, if they were not able to fight (which I still don't buy - outnumbered they may be, but these were, unlike Merlin, trained witches and wizards, since magic was practiced in the open).
What do you think happened? Was the magical population...
Tricked to their deaths?
Outnumbered?
Overpowered?
Overpowered by traitor witches and wizards fighting on Uther's side?
What is your understanding of The Great Purge?

Over at
We've had quite a few votes for the Best Categories, but we have just 2 votes for Best Overall (ie. The Top Ten). Possibly because it's a comment vote and not a poll vote - which I'll consider changing next time. But right now...
If a few of you would be so kind as to click the banner, you can decide the 1st, 2nd, 3rd placings, as well as where the other ten rank in relation to each other.
Voting Ends: Monday 21st May 2012 23:59 (AEST) - unless we don't have enough votes to determine a winner, in which case we'll have to extend it.
